Shamba Technologies was formed in 2009 to create a direct link between investors worldwide and East African business opportunities. At the heart of the company lies a social enterprise philosophy inspired by the likes of Mohammed Yunus and C. K. Prahalad. We strongly believe that the most effective way to bring large scale and high growth benefits to a community is through a profitable business. This ideology drives us to search for business opportunities in East Africa that bring economic, social and environmental prosperity; both at a household level and a global level.
There are currently many such business opportunities in East Africa, but the unavailability of local venture capital funds is a serious impediment to their realisation. We identify these business opportunities, develop them, and raise the necessary capital from private and corporate investors from around the world.
We are currently operating in the United Republic of Tanzania as Shamba Technologies Tanzania Ltd., and are interested in pursuing any business opportunities that are at an un-developed or semi-developed stage, to sell income-generating or cost-saving products for use at a domestic or community scale. We are particularly interested in clean energy products.
